Guess what today is....

It's James' Birthday. He's now 29. Xander is learning how old he & his siblings are. I'm teaching him to say "Old" when I ask him how old his daddy is. hee hee. James has chosen to eat out tonight for his birthday dinner. We'll be going to his favorite restraunt - Texas Roadhouse - where he orders a sirloin steak so big the waiters ask if he's sure.

I've decided I need a partner in crime when it comes to making cakes. Jaxson is my new accomplice.

Jaxson and I tried out a new recipe for a cake. It was SUPER simple. 1 box of cake mix, 1 can of Diet Sprite. Mix then bake. We made a white cake & decided to make it more fun by adding different colors to the batter. Jaxson chose to have Red, White & Blue cakes. Each of us frosted a cake. We ate mine & Jaxson took his masterpiece with him to his mother's house to share.

I had a TON of fun making this cake with Jaxson and am looking forward to making more in the future.

Treasure Hunting

Jaxson and his Dad went on a treasure hunt in the backyard this weekend.



We rented a metal detector last fall. James and Jaxson went to the Jordan River in search of some treasure. Jaxson was hoping to find a lot of coins and jewerly. They found several coins, metal scraps, bolts/nuts and a whole assortment of stuff. Jaxson had a lot of fun - so - we got him a metal detector for Christmas.

Spring has finally sprung, and it's warm enough to go lookin' for metal! This weekend they found an old iron pipe. Next time they go Jaxson says he's goin' huntin' for some rings & coins. Wish Jaxson luck in all his treasure hunting fun!

Easter

I hope everyone had a great Easter.

The boys had a blast finding all the eggs. Xander would point to eggs out of reach and yell "I see... I see." Jaxson tore across the whole house looking for those elusive eggs.

As if all the candy the Easter Bunny brought wasn't enough - we had chocolate waffles for breakfast and quickly got ready for church. We were in such a rush to get out the door that I forgot to take pictures of the kids in their Easter clothes. They were so cute - but you'll just have to imagine them at their cutest since I was a slacker and didn't take pictures :)

Our Mornings

Our mornings are pretty simple in the Ridenour household. Drag Mom out of bed, eat breakfast, then enjoy some time together watching our favorite shows (Blue's Clues, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Little Einstiens).

So often I enter our family room and catch Xander and Elsha sitting together or even snuggling. The calm doesn't last once I'm there so I have to be sneaky if I want a picture. They are SO very cute together!

Grandpa's Birthday Cake

I had so much fun making a cake for my Dad's birthday! His b-day falls on April 1st, APRIL FOOLS DAY! So I couldn't resist having some fun. My dad loves cheesecake. I found the cutest cake that was shaped like a slice of Swiss cheese and had to make it. It even had a little mouse to make the package complete.

I got REALLY ambitious and made everything from scratch!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake, Cream Cheese Frosting Filling (ok, I'll admit I bought this), Buttercream Icing, Marshmallow Fondant.

What a fun new (and tasty) hobby! Now I just need to work in time to do my scrapbooking still!

Zoom! Zoom!

Xander sure figured out this remote control car fast. Daddy was showing him that the car moved when you push the thumbstick & he snatched the remote and started following the car around. He had so much fun making the car move around the family room. Elsha just sat in the middle of the room and watched the car zoom around her.

Xander is still working on finesse - right now the car SLAMS into everything, the couch, cabinets, table legs, the car, occasionally Elsha, and more often then coincidence could explain - my ankles!
